The Tipping Point
It’s time to stop sugarcoating reality. AI is already here, it’s being rapidly implemented into the core of organisations around the world and it’s here to stay.
Tools like ChatGPT are being embedded into CRM’s, knowledge management, customer service and more. Automated Valuation Models are being used to value properties, gauge the temperature of the market and make impactful decisions, instead of humans. Contract automation apps are becoming increasingly popular amongst real estate companies and legal teams to reduce administrative burden and in some cases, headcount.
The use of these tools directly impacts roles across conveyancing, real estate agency and administration and this is just the tip of the iceberg.
As these changes begin to trickle down, you’ll need to be more aware of the changes to look out for, the questions you need to ask and the pivot you need to make to ensure your role is secure and adaptable to the new AI age. If you’re in a senior position, you may want to read How to Implement AI so your Team Doesn't Hate You for a more top down angle on this topic.
What AI can replace (And why you should care)
Microsoft recently published a study measuring the impact of GenAI on the wider workforce. The study listed the top 40 roles most likely to be replaced by AI. Although Real Estate Agent was not included, unsurprisingly, the list mentioned writers, analysts, sales reps (at number 4) and brokerage clerks (no.11). See for yourself below:

You’ll notice some commonality in the types of. Many include tasks that can be replaced by AI because they involve:
Data heavy tasks with analysis, statistics and mathematics
Surface level research and deep research
System focussed with little deviation from set processes and steps
Coding and financial modelling
Low empathy communication i.e follow-ups, scheduling, booking and confirming.
Repetitive admin such as writing emails, updating spreadsheets and CRMs
It’s important to have insight into the types of tasks and roles most likely to be impacted by AI, doing so enables you to benchmark those tasks against your own role, so you’re not blindsided if processes become automated.
Think about your everyday tasks, how many times do you update the same spreadsheet? How many times do you send the same confirmation email?
These are the types of tasks that will be automated with AI first.
5 ways to make yourself ⭐️ Irreplaceable ⭐️
Double Down on Human Rapport & Relationship Building
Human emotion, understanding and empathy cannot be replicated by AI. Your ability to make connections, build trust and communicate on a human level are irreplaceable. Being a good communicator is also essential for closing deals. As other companies shy away from human contact and eliminate these roles (your company may do the same), try to set yourself a weekly target for 1:1 human touchpoints. This can be anything from a zoom call, coffee meeting or phone call.
Use AI as a Tool, Don’t treat it as a threat
Use AI tools to your advantage to demonstrate how they can help you to be more efficient. E.g. Use AI to prepare a presentation or property info pack so you can focus more on pitching and securing new business.
Become the AI expert within your team
Learn how to prompt and build AI Assistants, generate reports, presentations and email automations with AI. Become the go-to person within your team when it comes to using AI tools. That way, if headcount is cut due to AI implementation, those with a level of AI fluency may be seen as more valuable.
Upskill yourself and your team
Continuously develop your AI skills and encourage AI fluency within your team. It can be challenging to influence attitudes towards AI from leadership down, so having cheerleaders within a team increases the likelihood of AI adoption being successful.
Build your reputation, not just your role
People buy from people they trust. Be the best version of you and build your social presence by networking, showing up on Linkedin.
Mistakes to Avoid
Being Complacent
Don’t ignore AI. Technology is advancing every month and things that were considered impossible 6 months ago are now within reach. In 2024, voice agents were unreliable and easily detected. In present day, the technology is so advanced that it can be used in interviews and sales calls. When ChatGPT first launched, it could only handle one instruction at a time. Now it’s capable of handling deep research and complex report generation with a single prompt.
Waiting for your Company to Train You
Although many businesses are training and upskilling their employees, taking the time to do your own research and reading newsletters like this will help you gain an advantage. There are dozens of free courses available online to help you improve your AI knowledge so there’s no excuse. If you’re interested in joining other like minded professionals who are exploring AI, problem solving and testing new AI tools, apply to join the Property AI Hub, launching at the end of the month.
Final Thoughts
Pick one idea mentioned above and implement it this week, whether that be enrolling in a new course, setting time aside for relationship building or suggesting a new AI tool to your team. Take the first steps toward making yourself an AI asset.
Take a positive approach and reframe AI as a career catalyst that can propel you to new levels. Carve out a new, impactful role within your existing organisation where AI is your helpful teammate.
